Early Times Report
BUDGAM, July 6: The Swach Bharat Abhiyan (SBM) under clean India has failed to make any visible impact as heaps of garbage has been found around the woods in several areas of central Kashmir's Budgam district.
Sources from the Budgam district said that, the authorities concerned have failed to find an alternative to dump the garbage mounds in and around the district, and the tourists have also lost the inner conscience by polluting the environment on the tourist spot like Yousmarg.
They said that heaps of garbage was seen by locals at various spots in Yousmarg and Pakherpora of Budgam district, thus putting the Municipal and other concerned authorities responsible for polluting the area.
We are very much concern about the tourist spots, and unfortunately the MC employees have failed to arrange a garbage dumping site, and it has evoked widespread resentment among the locals as heaps of garbage are lying scattered across the area, sources told early times.
They said that the solid waste including plastic bags, polythene, syringes and other non biodegradable garbage was thrown on the roads and under the woods in Pakherpora area.
Foul smell emanating from the heaps of garbage gives tough moments to locals and the tourists, reports said.
One can understand that, the slogan of Swach Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) has not been implemented on ground and the concerned department has also forgotten their responsibility to make awareness about it among local and other tourists who visit at the picnic spots, said locals of Chrar-e Shareef.
Locals said, it is the duty of government to find a place where they can dump the waste on daily basis, but they cannot pollute the environment.
Government is spending huge amount on cleanliness of roads and parks in Jammu and Kashmir, and today we are witnessing difference in climatic conditions, we believe that the sudden change in our environment is because of pollution and for all this untimely environmental changes, the department and locals are themselves responsible, sources informed.
