Early Times Report

BARAMULLA, July 17: A local militant of LeT outfit was killed Wednesday in an encounter with security forces in Brath village of Sopore town in this north Kashmir district.
A top police official said, "We had credible information about the presence of some militants in Brath area after which a joint team of security forces launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in the area.
We asked the militants to surrender, but they refused, after which the hiding militants fired upon the security forces, and accordingly the fire was retaliated."
In the ensuing gun battle, one local militant of Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) outfit was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter. Sources identified the killed militant as Adnan Ali Channa, son of Ali Mohammad Channa, of Arampora, Baramulla.
Sources said the slain militant had joined the outfit in April 2019 and was active since then.
A police spokesperson said the killed militant was wanted for his complicity in terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. According to the police records, the slain militant was operating in the areas of Baramulla and Sopore and was involved in planning and executing several terror attacks in the area, said a police statement.
It said that several terror crime cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 41/2019 pertaining to the killing of a civilian Arjumand Majeed Bhat in Jatti Baramulla in March 2019; case FIR No. 33/2019 pertaining to firing on a civilian Feroz Ahmad Gojree of Zaloora Sopore in May 2019.
The slain militant was also involved in recruiting locals to militant ranks.
Pertinently, with the efforts of police and security forces it was a clean operation and no collateral damage happened during the encounter.
Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
Meanwhile, soon after the encounter broke out, mobile internet was suspended in Baramulla and Sopore town as a precautionary measure.
