Lack of civic amenities makes lives of Preet Nagar residents miserable | Munish Gupta's mass contact prog continues | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 17: Residents of Guru Angad Dev lane and Dharam Lane of Preet Nagar have been reeling under severe shortage of civic amenities, as dilapidated roads, clogged drains and lack of dustbins depict the bad image of the locality, locals told Munish Gupta. Munish, Editor of Early Times who would be contesting upcoming assembly election from Gandhi Nagar constituency as independent candidate, during his ongoing mass contact programme on Wednesday reached Ward no. 57 of Preet Nagar. During his campaign, Munish met with people of all walks of life and listened to their woes which are unaddressed. The residents of the locality alleged that both BJP and Congress leaders have failed to deliver what they promised before the election. Their promises proved mere rhetoric, they said. Sewerage nallah creates havoc Parkash Kour and Jagjit Kour both residing just backside of U-Plaza told Munish that they are residing there for last five years. "Our lanes and drains are in shambles while the nallah passing near our homes is filthy. Wild grass has grown up on the garbage dumped on the bed of nallah which obstructs free flow of sewerage water. Hence the nallah is making our lives miserable. Even, the safaikaramcharis who were deputed here are irregular," they said. Power Development Department The residents of Dharam lane are suffering because of lack of planning by the Power Development Department. Inder Kour said that the PDD installed a transformer just in front of her gate; its hanging live wires are posing serious threat to human lives and especially for children who are playing and cycling in the lanes. "We repeatedly urged the PDD for fencing the transformer, but our pleas have yielded nothing." Lanes and drains "Our lanes are in dilapidated condition as sewerage water of nallah enters the lane whenever it rains. The garbage is dumped in the lanes given the shortage of dustbins. Before the election, the BJP councillor Rajrani promised us that a dustbin would be placed in every lane, but after getting elected she forgot it and never visits our area." Old age pension There are many elderly people in the area who are without old age pension benefit. "We requested local councillor and former MLAs to help us to get registered under pension scheme, but he didn't help us", said Vimala Devi whose her husband expired in 2005.
