Illegal sale of construction material outside police station in Srinagar | Jail Mein Surang! | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 23: In brazen violation of norms, the illegal sale of construction material is taking place right under the nose of police station Nawahata in Srinagar. The construction material including bricks and sand, are being sold on the main road in the area thereby creating hindrance in the smooth public movement in the congested locality. Sources said such sale outlets are run by some influential people who are close to the police and others in the administration. "How can police allow such illegal sale right outside their office. Have police checked the documents of these traders?" asked a delegation of locals. The locals said the matter was brought to the notice of the concerned several times but that no heed for paid towards the grievance. A traffic police official told Early Times that the roadside sale of construction material was brought into the notice of civil administration several times. He said the deposition of construction material on the road has chocked the road and was responsible for severe traffic jams in the area especially during peak hours. Experts said the sale of such material near police station was also a security issue. "Forget traffic issues, the sale of such issues material raises security concerns in a place like Kashmir," said a police official, on the condition of anonymity. A police official posted in the area said the concerned have been informed to get the encroachment cleared at an earliest. "We are not to be blamed as removing such obstructions is not or job. Its to be done by the civil administration," the official told Early Times. Meanwhile the locals have appealed Governor SP Malik to order an inquiry into the matter. |
