Similar orders were issued by Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Piyush Singla, District Administration in Doda, Reasi and Kathua districts. The orders for Doda have said that the holiday has been declared for Monday and Tuesday.
Following the announcement today, the Government of India has also released a special advisory for all the states and union territories, asking them to be on high alert and maintain law and order. GoI has also categorically asked the states to offer all support to the migrant Kashmiri student community in the country.
The exact extent of the holiday has not been announced as yet. The orders specifically state 'untill further notice'. Meanwhile, Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed in Jammu and Srinagar districts with effect from midnight. Also, all public meetings or rallies have been banned during the same.
"It should be noted that there will be no curfew in place as reported in a section of the media," the government order read.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services were partially suspended in Kashmir valley on Sunday, in view of the prevailing security situation in the region in recent days. Students from NIT Jammu had already left the campus following the government's advisory regarding the building tensions in the state and intelligence reports of a purported terrorist attack on the on-going Amarnath Yatra.
