JKNPP questions non-inclusion of Gilgit, Baltistan's 10 districts in newly created UTs | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 10: Prof Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party has asked the Union Government to explain why only Leh and Kargil districts have been declared part of the new Ladakh and J&K have been declared as Union Territories whereas 10 districts of Gilgit and Baltistan (now under Pak occupation) and areas of Aksai China gifted by Pakistan to China have not been included. India has 222,236 square kms in its control whereas PoK has 13,297 square Kms, Aksai China 37,244 square kms while Gilgit and Baltistan has an area of 72,971 square Kms. The bill has proposed 24 seats for PoK but is silent on Gilgit, Baltistan and Aksai Chin. Why there is no seat for them? How does the Union Government justify only 24 seats for PoK? The bill is also silent on delimitation of constituencies in the areas of Pak & China occupied Kashmir also. Has the government surrendered to China and closed its eyes on Gilgit and Baltistan? Are the people of these regions not in Indian territory?, he added. Prof Bhim Singh appealed to the President of India, Ramnath Kovind to hold an urgent meeting of all ex-legislators of J&K as well as the representatives of all recognized political parties including Hurriyat Conference to seek their opinion to make a peace-loving State of J&K. |
