PSA likely on some politicians under detention | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 10: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is likely to slap the Public Safety Act(PSA) on some of the politicians and their workers, presently under detention in Kashmir. Sources said the government has inputs that such politicians and their workers were planning for unrest in the valley in the wake of decision of New Delhi to divide the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. Sources said the government has found some of such faces as threat to the national security and thus are likely to be booked under the PSA. It was reliably learnt that the administration was in touch with the District Magistrates of the districts from where these politicians and their workers belong such that the cases in this regard would be prepared. Sources said the decision in this regard was likely to be made public after the Muslim festival of Eid Ul Azha. The sources also said that most of those likely to be booked under the PSA were from the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Conference, apart from those with separatist ideology or from Hurriyat. When contacted a senior official said nothing could be said about such decision. "Many things are into consideration but noting can be said as of now. But yes no one will be allowed to take Kashmir a hostage through violence," said the official on the condition of anonymity. It is pertinent to mention that the Jammu and Kashmir authorities airlifted a fresh batch of 20 "potential troublemakers" from Srinagar to Agra on August 9. Officials said the people, who have a history of being involved in separatist activities, were taken out of Kashmir Valley in a special Indian Air Force plane. They are alleged to be active members of separatist groups in Kashmir Valley. They were taken in a special IAF plane to Uttar Pradesh and lodged in Agra Central Jail. The authorities had airlifted 25 people, including president of Kashmir High Court Bar Association Mian Qayoom, as a precautionary measure in the wake of constitutional changes made by the government. Besides Qayoom, Mubeen Shah, an office-bearer of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce, was also part of the group. |
