DC Kathua meets Lambardars, Chowkidars of border area
Seeks cooperation in providing timely information

KATHUA, Aug 26: Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer convened a meeting to review the working of Lambardars and Chowkidars of border area of the district, here today.
Emphasizing the need to revive and strengthen the institution of Lambardars and Chowikdars, the DC said that Lambardar and Chowkidars are the eyes and ears of the District Administration. Beside, their role was very crucial in providing timely information to District Administration pertaining to sensitive region like border belt.
Tehsildar Hiranagar and Marheen were asked to conduct regular meeting with them so that issues related to Revenue department can be recognized beforehand.
The DC further directed lambardars and chowkidars to attend all revenue related work mentioned in statutes like Girdawari, attesting mutations, settlement operations and other works. He motivated them to report cases of change in land classification in their area, encroachment on State land and provide assistance to Patwaris` in identifying the detail of families residing in 0-3 Kms from border.
Tehsildar Hiranagar asked the lambardars and chowkidars to give basic data of their area viz. number of Govt. institutions, families residing in their area beside other details which will help the District administration in challenging times like border skirmishes.
Lambardars and chowkidars also raised several issues concerning their Identity Cards and Uniform. Beside they informed the DC that they were not called in Virasat Intakal camps and during Character Verification of the villagers. Issue of Addition and Deletion of Ration Cards was also discussed threadbare.
The DC gave them a patient hearing and assured them that their issues and concerns will be taken care of.
ADC Kathua, Ghansh-yam Singh, ACR, Devinder Paul, SDM Hiranagar, Suresh Kumar, Tehsildars of Hiranagar and Marheen and Tehsildar HQ Asstt. to DC was present in the meeting.
