Youth take to binge watching moves in Kashmir 10/5/2019 10:10:03 PM Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 5: In absence of any communication and internet, the youth have taken to binge watching movies and playing video games rented or bought from local video stores. Children from grade 3 to millennials can be seen thronging the shops which sell downloaded movies, CDs and games. This has turned into a boon for the stores as they experience a good business. One such example is movie gallery at Sanat Nagar in uptown Srinagar city. The shop remains open in the early morning and late evening hours. The owner, had sent his son to Delhi last month to download movies and update his stock. Presently, the shop has go tall latest games and movies on sale. "I realized there is huge demand for movies at present as there is no form of communication available and means of entertainment. So I sent my son to Delhi to get all the latest movies downloaded at the earliest," he said. As per the owner, one downloaded movie is sold for 20 rupees and a game costs 100 rupees per GB. Adil, a 21-year-old student said, "We were so accustomed to playing PUB G and other online games. Now when there is no internet, these downloaded movies and games come as a respite." However, an avid gamer from Gulshan Nagar Yawar said, "These games are proving to be expensive. I bought a game at an exorbitant price. He charged me 6000 rupees for 60 gigabytes. Normally, it would have cost me much less in the market." Aquib, a teenager standing near the shop front said that watching movies helps him de-stress. "Movies keep me engaged and deviate me from the negative thoughts which overpower me. The lockdown doesn't seem to end. We have to keep ourselves busy with something. Isn't it?" he asks. Another youth Shahid said, "It is good to keep ourselves engaged otherwise we will feel frustrated at home.
