Red Wood Jungle - a book by Dr. Adarsh Prakash | | | Mahadeep Singh Jamwal
Books have been here for centuries and without them today's knowledge of our past ancestors, cultures and civilizations would have been impossible. Books are packed with knowledge, insights into a happy life, life lessons, love, fear, prayer and helpful advice. As a witness to the release of the book 'Red Book Jungle' written by Dr. Adarsh Prakash in KL Sehgal Hall Jammu and the words of the writer in his message that reactionary comments by readers are not less than 'Sanjivni' for the writer, I dare to put few words on the book. The preface of the book written by Parkash Premi, Sahitya Awardees, has hammered those writers having abysmal connection with migration but has written too much on the Migration where as the Jammu comparatively much discriminated but our book writers have some where failed to project it in right perspective. The observation of Mr. Premi that instead of development, we are moving towards 'Kattarvad' is a hard hit reality on the political scenario of the country. Every story of the writer is in itself based on realities and carries best messages for the society. Some of the stories in brief for readers are: 1. The story 'Red Wood ka Jungle' that revolves around 'Old Age Home' carries in itself a great message for those who compel their old age parents to take shelter in 'Old Age Homes'. When 'Anubha' a small girl child on a visit to 'Varidashram' suddenly come across her grandparents, and she expose the lie of her parents that Grand Pa and Grand Ma have gone to some relative. The small child gets inspiration and strength that she will cultivate the atmosphere like that of red wood trees, the roots of which although not deeply rooted but intertwined with one another representing a strong and happy culture in every family. 2. The other story 'Kash unki aavaj bhi suni jati' is life experience of the writer and very beautifully has spread the village atmosphere on the pages of real village and that of a developed village, with deforestation, drugs etc penetrating the real village life. The modern development has snatched the oneness culture of the villages and politics has created breaches among the people. 3. The story 'Ug Aayei Konpal Thunth Pr' is characterization of a Police Walla, Dilbagh Singh, a corrupt, drunkard, cruel to society as well as to his wife 'Ratti Devi', living a life of seclusion. Transferred to a police station of a far flung area on complaint basis but there too patronize the Country liquor manufacturers and enjoy the liquor. The way in an encounter, he fall victim to a bullet and his subsequent public recognition raise question on the police department in declaring various bravery awards. The cash and other public facilitation and slogans 'Shahid Dilbagh Singh Amar Rahe', Shrimati Ratti Devi Jindabad' 'Birron Ka Balidan Amar Rahe' leave 'Rati' wife of the police walla in bewilderment that once totally ignored by leaders and others the torture on her, drunkard and eye sore for everyone, how bravery (false) of her husband is propagated by same leaders and people? 4. "Jaruri Baat" although it is one of the story in the book but it reflects the true picture of a common Kashmiri being crushed betwixt 'Army' and 'Militants' how the Militants recruit innocent and only son of the family for subversion activities, the role religious preachers such as 'Moulavi Rehmn' fictional character play in the Valley. 'Surakshit Kona' is the story that tells us how a storm and devastation by can be observed and enjoyed but only when one is in safe place. The writer gives us a message that life is full of turmoil and everyone has to face them but we can pass over them by facing and observing them while in a safe corner of our inner conscious and we have to look for such safe corners in our life. 5. 'Kasur Tera Hi Hai' is a story that germinates when one lady 'Swarna' is sent to old age home by the city Magistrate for a period of one week. The events compelling the lady to approach court for redress of her grievance gives a lesson to the society for introspection and to look for new dynamics regarding the social evils that exists in the families set up and in the society. The entire book can be leveled as a book of messages that trickle as moral of each story and have the power of transforming the society and aware about the social evils that persist in our society. I will not hesitate to comment that there may be many books in the libraries written by many writers having magnetizing effects on the society but they are either confined to the libraries, with those getting them on occasions of their releasing ceremony attending it or within the confined community of the writers only. Moreover in the fast moving life cycle and everyone in a race after money do not have time and interest to look for valuable books. The book reading culture is diminishing day to day. Here we have to look in a changed scenario to create the readers of the books and for the purpose the release of such books as in my hand 'Red Wood Jungle' had to be organized in functions where large people can witness and attend to it. Generally seen such occasions have the presence of book writers and some close friends and relatives only of the writer whose book release is the occasion. The writers Club is required to be created to deliberate on this issue how readers are to be created. |
