Dussehra celebrated across Jammu region

JAMMU, Oct 8: Dussehra marking the victory of good over evil was celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety across the Jammu region today.
The functions were organized at different places in the region where the effigies of demon King Ravan, his brother Kumbkaran and son Meghnath were torched.
The main function was organized at Parade Ground here this evening by the Sanatan Dharam Sabha, (SDS), Jammu and thousands of people watched the torching of effigies of demon King and his clan during the programme.
First the Lanka was set to flames which was followed by torching of the effigy of Meghnath the eldest son of Ravan and his brother Kumbkaran. In last demon King was set on fire. The effigies crumbled within seconds and turned into ashes.
There was a deafening sound all around as the crackers inside the effigies bursted into flames forcing children and some spectators to keep their ears closed for a while.
Prior to torching of the effigies, the chariots and Sena of Lord Ram made rounds of Parade Ground with devotees paying obeisance to it. As the effigies were set on fire the slogans like Jai Sia Ram rent the air.
There was a huge rush of people in Parade Ground. Hundreds of people were watching the event from roof tops of Government and private buildings surrounding Parade Ground also.
The authorities had made elaborate security arrangements on the occasion and a big contingent of police and CRPF were deployed in and around Parade Ground the venue of celebrations.
The celebration of Vijaydashami was celebrated with great pomp on Tuesday in the Vijaypur City. The procession of Ram Bhagwan was carried out in places like Guda Salathia Talab, Old Vijaypur, Ram Natak Sanstha Vijaypur, etc.
And effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkarn, MehgNath were burnt. During this procession of Lord Rama with drums and fire was taken out in places like Guda Salathia, Vijaypur, Old Ramnatak Sanstha Vijaypur, etc. Surjit Singh Salathia greeted people on the occasion of Dussehra. And that good has triumphed over evil
Like in other parts of the country, Dussehra -- the festival of celebration of victory over evil was also celebrated at Kishtwar with great enthusiasm and religious fervor in which around 10000 people from different parts of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas assembled at historic Chowghan ground Kishtwar and participated in the celebration by burning effigies of Ravana, Kumbkaran and Megnath. Earlier, the artists of Adarsh Dramatic Club Kishtwar in Ram, Lakshman and Hunuman get ups in the form of procession reached Chowghan ground and put all the effigies on fire.
Today's Dussehra mark the return of normalcy in Kishtwar with Kishtwar Administration for the first time allowed such huge religious gathering following the abrogation of Article 370 & 35 A of the constitution on August 5 this year since administration has denied permission to nearly 60 small scale yatras that annually took place in Chenab belt beside grounding famous Machail and Hud Matta Yatra.
As a mark of brotherhood several prominent members from Muslim community of Kishtwar also participated in today's Dussehra function. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana, SSP Kishtwar Dr. Harmeet Singh Mehta, Additional SP Kishtwar Nasir Khan, Dy. SP HQ Sunny Gupta, Dy. SP DAR Iftikar Chowdhary, SHO Police Station Kishtwar Aijaz Ahmed Wani and other senior police and revenue officials also participated in Dussehra celebration
Dussehra festival-which marks the victory of good over evil, was celebrated with great enthusiasm, gaiety and religious fervour by people here in Mendhar where effigies of Ravana, Kumbkaran and Meghnath were burnt on Saturday
A grand religious function was held at historical Mendhar Town where large number of people watched the burning of sky high effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhkarana and son Meghnath to mark the culmination of good prevailing upon evil.
The PDP Senior Leader Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Hussein khan greet people on this auspicious occasion and said that Dussehra symbolises the triumph of good over the evil and one should take a pledge on this day to sink the evils and follow the path of truth and service to mankind.
