Toll-plazas generates over Rs 30,000 Crore annually: NHAI | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 15: Facing anger over Sarore toll plaza, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) while quoting the statement of Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, claimed that the annual toll income is Rs. 30,000 crores and in next five years it will cross 1 Lakhs crore mark. Addressing media persons, NHAI official claimed that the income apart from the taxes is used for the repayment of debt, maintenance of highway and further development of new highways. In J&K, currently there are four toll plazas with annual toll income as Thandikhui Toll Plaza - Rs 46.2 Cr, Bann Toll Plaza - Rs 62.2 Cr, Mada & Nashri Toll Plaza - Rs 34.4 Cr, Kachkoot Toll Plaza - Rs 52.8 Cr. NHAI Jammu has stated that the traffic is being smoothed and reduced day by day. On the first day the traffic congestion was due to people not being ready to pay the User Fee, hence due to argument by the road users there was traffic congestion which has now significantly reduced. Further, we have started using hand held machine etc. beside normal toll booth slip. He also told that we have allotted dedicated lane for buses, trucks, LMV and exempted & VIP Lanes. |
