New Delhi: A three-member Enforcement Directorate (ED) team arrested former Union Minister P Chidambaram in connection with INX media money laundering case on Wednesday.

Chidambaram is currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail, where the ED team went to interrogate him in the morning for two hours.

ED has put Chidambaram's arrest orders on paper and he will be removed from Tihar after court orders.

A special court had on Tuesday allowed three ED officials to interrogate Chidambaram in connection with the case and arrest him, if necessaryThe court had also directed jail authorities to make necessary arrangements and provide a secure place to interrogate Chidambaram.

"Application for arrest of accused is being treated as an application for interrogation in the present case and is being allowed accordingly," the court ruled.

The order was passed by special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar based on a plea filed by the ED seeking permission to arrest the senior Congress leader.

The court had also turned down an application filed by Chidambaram challenging a court order by which it issued a production warrant against him.

The senior Congress leader's wife Nalini and their son Karti had also reached Tihar premises ahead of the interrogation.

Chidambaram has been in judicial custody since August 21, when he was arrested for his involvement in the alleged irregularities in granting of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to INX Media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during his term as Finance minister.
