BJP leaders on 'Mission Kashmir', travel from north to south | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 8: Even as the situation continues to be uneasy in Kashmir since the abrogation of the Article 370 on August 5, the Bharatiya Janta Party has started its "mission Kashmir" to restore normalcy and political activities in the valley. Sources said for the past around a month, some of the senior leaders from the state chapter of the party have been working on a "special assignment" given to them by senior leaders including Ram Madhav and Avinash Rai Khanna. Sources said the BJP leadership in the national capital including Rai and Khanna told the state chapter to open communication channels with the politicians in Kashmir to come to a consensus to resume political activities in the militancy infested region of Kashmir. Sources said the some of the senior leaders from Jammu region have been frequently visiting Kashmir, including sensitive areas, to hold deliberations with the "well meaning voices." Sources said two such leaders of the BJP have been rigorously travelling from north to south Kashmir to hold meetings with some of the politicians including their families. Sources said the BJP is working on a plan to get political activities resumed in Kashmir. It was reliably learnt that most of the politicians in Kashmir agreed to plan to seek restoration of the statehood for Jammu Kashmir that became a Union Territory on October 31. Sources said the BJP leadership in Jammu has agreed to the same and that the matter would be discussed with the party's national leadership later this month. As per the insiders, the two BJP leaders camping in Kashmir are hopeful of breaking the ice in a month or so. "They BJP(leaders) have already done a huge ground work and the breakthrough is expected with some of the senior Kashmir politicians," said a BJP leader on the condition of anonymity. |
