Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 15: More than four years have been passed but authorities have failed to complete the process of setting up Electronic Public Distribution System (ePDS) in J&K to bring transparency and accountability in distribution of ration.
Credible sources said that an influential mafia is creating hurdle in the implementing of this system because this process will help the department to end pilferage of ration meant for the poor people.
his has reference to the news item 'Ration pilferage leaves consumers high and dry DE Nov 28.
The people living in far flung areas of the J&K have been the victims of blackmarketing of the ration meant for them and this blackmarketing is going unabated due to influence of this mafia.
For the past so many years there have been reports that the ratioin that was meant for the poor people living in remote areas does not reach them.
Process to set up ePDS was started in the month of January 2015 but it is still in limbo. It was announced in the year 2017 that process will be completed by March 2018. The then Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Tribal Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali while chairing a meeting of officers of Jammu Division convened to review the progress on streamlining of the ration distribution system under ePDS project, had stated that process will be completed by March 2018.
The Minister, while elaborating on the measures being initiated to make the system transparent, had asked the concerned officers to strictly adhere to the set deadline for completion of the project so that the purpose behind launching of this prestigious project is met in letter and spirit and consumers get ration in a totally transparent and hassle-free manner. The Minister directed the authorities of M/S Linkwell Tele-systems Pvt Ltd. to complete 100% installation of PoS devices in 20 districts of the State by 30 January, 2018positively to make 6000 Fair Price Shops in these districts fully functional. He said the process of installation of PoS devices in border districts of Leh and Kargil shall also be taken up soon.
