KVK Reasi promotes commercial floriculture | | | Early Times Report
rEASI, Nov 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the commercial floriculture production in Reasi distt. of J&K so that the income of the farmers of hilly areas can be enhanced. In hilly district Reasi some areas are badly affected by the monkey menace and marigold is proving as an alternative viable crop in these areas. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi scientists are guiding and encouraging the farmers for the scientific marigold production. Villages such as Kanjali, Bhaga, Chamba, Chak Bhakta etc. of Reasi district of J&K are commercially producing the marigold crop and selling their farm produce at Katra, Jammu and Udhampur. KVK, Reasi scientists are imparting the trainings on scientific marigold production and educating the farmers on new varieties of marigold. Integrated Pest and Diseases Management practices in marigold crop are suggested by the KVK, Reasi scientists. According to Sr. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal commercial floriculture can play a significant role in generating more income and employment among the farmers. He also emphasised on the value addition in the floriculture for doubling the farmers' income. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi is endouvering to enhance the income of the monkeys affected areas of Reasi district. By observing the results of floriculture villages in Reasi district many new villages are coming forward for commercial floriculture. |
