Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 18: Despite incessant thrust from the Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), for the construction of Kitchen-cum-Store in Jammu and Kashmir but ironically the state education department has utterly failed to complete the same in prescribed time.
Sources informed Early Times that in Jammu and Kashmir there were 23121 schools where Mid Day Meal (MDM) is being served to children and nearly 11815 Schools were selected for construction of Kitchen-cum-store and nearly Rs 8393.63 Lac were allocated for the construction of the same.
"Unfortunately, the state has completed only to construct 7118 Kitchen cum Store in Jammu and Kashmir and remaining 40 percent (4697 ) are still unconstructed", said sources.
Sources further said that in year of 2017-18, the state government had stopped the construction of nearly 4697 Kitchen cum Store due to low cost prescribed by Ministry of Human Resources and Development for the construction of the same.
Thereafter, the state has prepared type design of Kitchen cum store having plinth area 157 Sq. feet trough SSA Engineer Wing of state SOR 2012 with the estimated cost of Rs. 2.05 Lacs in Summer zone and Rs. 2.61 Lacs in Winter zone.
During the PAB-MDM meeting which was held at 12/06/2019, the state was advised to complete the construction of remaining 4697 Kitchen cum store by 30/09/2019 or surrender the funds pertaining to those schools where construction is not possible but after lapse of sufficient time from the prescribed time, the state government failed to complete them, the reasons best known to authority concerned.
Pertinent to mention here that despite instruction to CA&PD to cover all the leftover schools where no LPG connection for cooking Mid day meal but due to nonchalant attitude of both the department concerned, nearly 8554 schools are stilly using firewood for cooking mid day meal.
