In a first, 2G services to become functional by Dec 1st week | Govt mulling to restore mobile internet in Jammu | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: The Jammu and Kashmir administration is mulling to lift the internet gag from Jammu region in coming days, underscoring the fact that the region must not to get punished for the sins it never committed. As per the reports coming to the fore, low speed internet, in the first place, is being restored in Jammu district and within a stipulated timeframe, concrete measures are in the offing over restoring the high speed internet in the erstwhile winter capital. Sources said that the broadband services in Jammu are already functional and there has been no report of any misuse of the facility by the masses. Keeping in view the present ground situation, low speed mobile internet will be restored within 15 days and by December 1st week, the facility will become functional in entirety. "There is already high speed broadband functional in Jammu including the fibre services. Hardly has there been an incident in which any misuse of the internet service has been found. It carries no logic that we shall continue with the policy of internet gag in a place which hasn't done anything wrong," divulged the reports. The Jammu and Kashmir administration, as per the sources, has also taken serous note of the hardships students and business fraternity of Jammu region has been facing for more than 100 days due to lack of mobile internet services. As per the reports, the directions have been issued from the higher officials to take the necessary measures as per the situation on the ground and if there is normality in the region with people completely cooperating with the administration, why should they be punished for the sins they never committed. The Cellular Operators Association of India an amalgam of GSM mobile players, had revealed that the overall telecom industry operating in the erstwhile state suffers the loss of Rs 2 crores on daily basis when the calling and data services are suspended. According to the estimates of study, the present gag is longest ever in the history of the world with people in both the regions- Jammu as well as in Kashmir facing internet gag for more than 100 days. |
