Sunshine greets people in Kashmir after 2 days of rain, snow | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 24: After experiencing rain, snow and cloudy weather for three days, sunshine greeted the people on Sunday in the summer capital, Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley, resulting in some improvement in the day temperature. A Met department official told that light rain and snow could occur at isolated places during the next 48 hours in the valley. 'A fresh Western Disturbance (WD), which originated from the Arabian Sea and is approaching the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region on Tuesday,' he said. He said under the influence of this WD, widespread rain and snow would occur for two days from Tuesday. 'The weather system could result in suspension of road and air connectivity of Kashmir with rest of the country,' he added. After witnessing above normal night temperature, people woke up to a chilly Sunday morning in Srinagar. But, as the day progressed, the Sun came out from behind the clouds, giving some respite to people from chilly weather conditions though ice cold wounds continued. 'The night temperature on Sunday in Srinagar settled at 4.9 degrees, which is over 3 degree above normal,' he said, adding that the maximum temperature in the city on Saturday was about 7.7 degrees below normal. Day temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, which is under several feet of snow, also witnessed improvement as bright sunshine greeted tourists, who were out, enjoying different snow related activities. The mercury during the day at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, surged as the Sun came out from behind the clouds. Pahalgam and its adjoining areas are under a foot of snow while the upper reaches have received several feet of precipitation. Improvement in the weather was also witnessed in other areas in the valley, including Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag. |
