Early Times Report Udhampur, Dec 16: Vijay Diwas, the day to celebrate the victory of India over Pakistan in 1971 war was celebrated at Shrdhanjali Sthal, Major Narain Singh Chowk , Udhampur. Various organisations like Ex-servicemen Kalyankari Sangathan , Senior Citizen,s Club Udhampur , Beopar Mandal Udhampur , Intellectual Forum Jammu Province , Seva Bharti Udhampur , Tushar Mahajan Trust and different Colleges and Schools of Udhampur participated. The program at Udhampur started with paying floral tributes to the Sainik Martyrs in the morning . Dr Gurinder Singh Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur was the Chief guest who laid the wreath at the Martyrs Samadhi and payed his homage. Thereafter patriotic songs and cultural program was held in which children of Shivalik College of Education, Happy Model School , Brahmrishi Bawra Vishva Vidyalaya , Bhartiya Vidya Mandir and MP Convent School participated. Beginning this year, the martyr soldiers families of District Udhampur , whose sons or husbands have laid down their lives for the security of the Nation were also honoured in this function. Father of Rifleman Yash Pal who was martyred at Sunderbani this year , resident of far flung area of Mantalai was honoured with a Shawl and a cheque if Rs 5000/- by the Chief guest. Other prominent citizens who laid wreath and paid floral tributes on the Martyrs Samadhi were Dr Jogeshwar Gupta Chairman Municipal Council , Udhampur , Surender Singh Khalsa Deputy Chairman MCU , Dev Raj Gupta Chairman Martyr Tushar Mahajan Trust , Vikram Salathia , Col Arun Kumar , Col Balwant Singh and Ex Minister Pawan Kumar Gupta and Ex MLA,s Sh Balwant Singh Mankotia. |
