DC Kathua flags off Horticulture tour | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Dec 16: Deputy Commissioner, Om Parkash Bhagat today flagged off a Horticulture tour comprising of group of 20 farmers from Kathua and Barnoti Block for exposure cum training tour to Punjab and Himachal Pardesh. The programme is organized under the Mango village scheme (Capex 2019-2020). The Deputy Commissioner advised the farmers to interact with the scientist of the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh universities as much as they can and clear their doubts regarding the cultivation of the Mango crops in their locality. He also advised for use of latest techniques and farm practices to boost their production. Mango is cash crops and farmers can adopt its cultivation in Kathua and Barnoti areas as the climatic conditions are most suitable for its cultivation, DC said and impressed upon the farmers/orchardists to go for improved cultivations of the mango crops which are either early maturing or late maturing to harness maximum return of the produce. The farmers/ orchardists have an opportunity to visit the orchards of progressive farmers to learn their practices and implement the same in their localities. The Chief Horticulture Officer, Shushil Kumar Angurana while briefing the farmers stressed for utilizing the opportunity to enhance their production and quality and besides learning other allied activities with integrated approach and the farmers can become ambassador for others famers of their area. The farmers are accompanied by Subject matter Specialist and Horticulture Development officer Barnoti. |
