Why is Govt delaying to make list of gazetted holidays public for 2020? | Authorities leave people guessing! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: The inordinate delay being done by the Jammu and Kashmir government in making the list of the public holidays public has raised several eyes bows, giving rise to the speculations that various otherwise gazetted holidays are beg omitted out while as few ones are likely to get inducted into the list. As per sources in the dispensation, the government delaying to declare the list of the public holidays in Jammu and Kashmir is because of the fact that there are hectic deliberations going on over what gazetted holidays should be included and what should be omitted out. "It is a very tricky affair and needs a lot of confabulations. It is expected that by the end of this week, the list will be made public and government press will be accordingly informed so that it print the official calendars without delay," said the official, adding that in 2016, 17 and 18- the list was declared in the very first week of December and that it is for the first time that such a delay is being done. "But the delay has the reason. It is OK if finalisation of things which merit such importance takes time," he added. On Jan 24, 2017, the upper house adopted a resolution urging the government to declare holiday on September 23 every year on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Dogra king of Jammu and Kashmir. The private member resolution was moved by BJP MLC, Ajatshatru Singh, who is the grandson of the Late Maharaja. The resolution was accepted and Deputy Chairman Jahangir Hussain Mir asked government to respond. Then Minister of Education and Leader of the House Neeam Akther said, "Jammu and Kashmir already observes 28 state holidays in addition to provincial, restricted, local holidays," adding, "In this circumstance it's not feasible for government to further increase the number of holidays," and urged Ajatshatru Singh to withdraw the resolution. Normally members withdraw resolutions after reply from the government but in this case Ajatshatru Singh refused to withdraw and pressed for discussion and voting. Several legislators from PDP and BJP praised the administration of Late Maharaja. Though NC and Congress politicised the issue and opposed the resolution, however the duo couldn't stop it from getting passed by the majority in state's upper house. However, as per sources, the government has kept the final decision in this regard in limbo, making no effort to implement the resolution on ground. Also, Early Times has already reported that there are high chances that Government may declare the public holiday on account of Sheikh Abdullah's birthday on Dec 5 as null and void and cancel its observance from next year. "There are only few details which have been finalised as of now. We have to wait and watch till the list gets the final nod of Jammu and Kashmir's Lt Governor. There are chances that the central government too may be kept in loop," divulged the sources on the issue of declaring the list of Gazetted Holidays. |
