Jammu, Dec 23: On Dogri Manta Divas ,Botanists Prof Karan Singh ,Om Prakash ,Ravikant Verma and Prof Yashpal Singh visited Bharatgarh hamlet to spread message of Biodiversity documentation by way of People's Biodiversity Register incorporating traditional inputs ,local tree traditions ,plant usages, people's names in Dogri to connect to roots and others. More than 60 students, farmers, and officials participated in the outdoor learning session which started from Nud and culminated at Bharatpur. Tree Talk crusader Om Prakash explained usages of lesser known edible & medicinal plants namely Greeda Wild basil Ocimum americanum , Krenbloo Antidesma diandrum ,Ban taudi Wild Pigeon pea Cajanus cajan, Ittsitt , Punarnava Boerhaavia diffusa , Koku Starwort Stellaria media , Bidd Badaad, Siali , Vidarikand Pueraria tubetosa , Kakodu Wild bitter gourd Momordica dioica , Brhainkad , Adusa Justicia adhatoda , Sannan Desmodium oojenense , Tarad Dioscorea belophylla , Gualmanda Telosma pallida , Kareenjali Caralluma tuberculata, Katraid , Kachnar Bauhinia variegata , Sohanjana Drumstick Moringa oleifera etc for inclusion in People's Biodiversity Register . Prof Karan Singh shared inputs on wildlife of Bharatgarh telling birds are feathered friends ,they are agents of pollination ,seed dispersal ,biocontrol agents of pests and add music to surroundings .Birds like Barbets Kudroo ,Hornbills Doye ,Green pigeons Preu ,Oriental turtle Dove Kalmunhe need trees like Figs , Rumbal , Phagwara, Trinbal ,peepal ,Bargad for food.Bregadu Baya need Babool for nesting.Hunting of wildlife is prohibited by law ,Kaleej Pheasant ,Jungle Fowl need protection.Nocturnal Sarkhal salla is a threatened animal and wildlife scheduled animal.Local names be included in the PBR ,Dogri names of birds ,animals & plants ,trees be preserved for posterity and PBR is one opportunity to educate youth about rich natural heritage. Mushroom expert Prof Yashpal Singh shared inputs on wild edible mushrooms like Tratta , Tartaaloo , Gucchi , Fafanoo , Sehdi , Khunb and sensitized villagers about Mushroom cultivation . |
