DF &SS urges LG to declare holiday on Maharaj Hari Singh's birthday | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 31: Ashok Gupta urged Jammu and Kashmir Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to declare Maharaja Hari Singh's birth anniversary as a public holiday, asserting that it was due to the state's erstwhile ruler that it became a part of India. He also demanded Late Shama Prasad Mukherjee Birth anniversary as the public holiday in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Let us recall that it was due to Maharaja Hari Singh ji that Jammu and Kashmir state became a part of India when he signed the instrument of accession on October 26, 1947. Apart from that he was a progressive and a far-sighted ruler who instituted many social and economic reforms for the welfare of the people. Ashok Gupta further stated that as far back as 1929, the than Maharaja had declared all temples in the state open to Dalits. "I urge the governor to declare this day as a public holiday. Finally the martyrdom of thousands starting with Dr Shyam Prasad Mukherjee for complete integration of J&K into Indian Union is being honoured and the seven decade old demand of the entire nation being realised in front of our eyes; in our lifetime. Party president Ashok Gupta demanded an enquiry in to the death of Shama Prasad Mukherjee and stated that a huge statue should be built in his honour where he had his last breaths. |
