It's official: Forget graduates and PGs, Tourism Deptt to promote matric pass peons as clerks! | Educated-unemployed seek LG Murmu's intervention; Demand probe | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 01: In an alleged discrimination with the thousands of jobless degree holders and other highly educated youth in Jammu and Kashmir, the government of this Union Territory has decided to promote matric pass peons and other class IV employees as clerks, to start with, in the Tourism Department. Official documents reveal that the government has invited applications from matric pass peons and other class IV employees working in the Tourism Department Kashmir to appear for a type test for their prospective promotion as Junior Assistants in the department. "It is for the information of all the Matriculate Class IVth employees of the directorate of Tourism Kashmir and Tourism Development Authorities of Kashmir Division that Department is going to conduct type test for promotion to the post of junior assistant through NIELIT Srinagar. All such class IV employees who are desirous of participating in the type test are asked to apply this office on any working day by or before 10.12.2019 alongwith an application and fee amount of Rs 250 in case cash as the same is to be deposit to Director NIELIT for conducting of the type test," reads the copy of the notification of the Joint Director of Tourism, Kashmir. Sources said decision has drawn severe criticism from the Indian Administrative Services and the Kashmir Administrative Services officials than to talk of the educated jobless youth alone. A senior official said the Tourism Department has set a "bad precedence" by coming up with such promotions when the recently created Union Territory has just come under the direct control of New Delhi. "After the creation of the Union Territory, the people were expecting people friendly governance where the educated youth would reap most of the benefits of good governance. Unfortunately such an initiative of promoting matric pass clerks has dashed such hopes for educated youth who are up in arms," said a senior IAS official on the condition of anonymity. The officials said giving the post of Junior Assistant that is supposed to be held by at least a graduate to a mere matric pass was "against the very idea of good governance." "What kind of notes or correspondence can a matric pass write?" asked the officials. Meanwhile the educated youth of Jammu and Kashmir have appealed Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to initiate an inquiry into the matter. "We appeal the His Excellency to initiate an inquiry into the matter as who is behind this conspiracy of depriving the adequately educated youth of their share in the government jobs," the youth said. |
