Amit talks about Eco Sensitization in a Seminar on Air Pollution | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 5: Amit Sharma, Administrator GMC & Associated Hospitals Jammu talked with lot of concern over Eco Sensitization amongst one and all in an important seminar on "Air Pollution in India : An Emergency" organised by 'We - The Human Forum for Nature and Mankind' at Forest Information Centre in Jammu. Amit Sharma, Administrator Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals was the Chief Guest on the occasion, whereas Prof. R D Sharma, Former Vice Chancellor University of Jammu & Noida International University Presided over the Seminar and Anil Suri, Former Chairman Federation of Industries Jammu was the Guest of Honour. Chief Guest of the Seminar Amit Sharma, Administrator Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals Jammu recalled various measures taken by the government to reduce air pollution viz., Commissioning of 40 Pollution free E- Buses in J&K during his last tenure in Transport Department, a Scheme for replacement of Old Private Transport Vehicles with Pollution Free New Vehicles which has been launched recently by the Government. He further elaborated that the Government has enacted several laws to contain air pollution caused by hazardous waste producing units like Pesticides Units, Brick Kiln, etc. Amit also suggested that the respective district administrations of Jammu and Srinagar should construct Dedicated Bicycle Tracks at the earliest in Jammu as well as in Srinagar under Smart City Plans to contribute towards this important cause. Amit Sharma emphasised that the capital cities require Earmarking and Development of City Forest Areas so as to improve air quality and the public has to come forth and keep contributing in own ways towards this vital task of breathing in fresh and clean air. Capt Lalit Sharma read a paper in the beginning on Air Pollution and apprised the gathering about present scenario of air pollution in India as well as in J&K. He demanded for phasing out of all diesel vehicles which are one of the major source of air pollution. He demanded for serious intervention by the government in recycling of stubble by converting same in bio fuel, paper, cardboards, eco-bricks and also to provide sufficient funds to farmers for cutting & shifting of field stubble from to the government designated stores/ hulls. Dr R.D Sharma, Former VC University of Jammu during his address mentioned that mobility related air pollution bring the top form of air pollution should be targeted to be minimised in the near future. Anil Suri Former Chairman Federation of Industries Jammu asked for a better coordination and exchange of ideas among industrialists and people so as to collectively replace old pollution intensive industry with a comparatively safe green industry without affecting economy of the country. Other Environmental activists expressed their concern over the rising level of air pollution in India. Apart from them and a galaxy of prominent citizens, the event was attended by Kw. Y.S Manhas and Retd Principal District and Session Judge who expresses their views on this sensitive subject. Capt Lalit Sharma Retd APCCF, A K Tickoo, Retd APCCF, Asst Prof. Parvini Sharma, Dr. Anamika Khajuria, President Rotary Club Trikuta alongwith her team, Arun Ticku IFS APCCF (Retd), B.C Raina, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, both Trade Unionists, Sunil Singh, DFO Urban Forestry Division Jammu, Guldev Raj, Amarchand Parihar and Anuj Verma, Social Activists, Karan Singh, Rakesh Kumar and Kuldeep Singh. Youth Environment Activists Mehar Fatima, Preeti Parihar, Sonal Kotwal spoke very eloquently on the subject who were presented with Certificates of Participation and Awards by the Chief Guest Amit Sharma before the culmination of the Seminar with a resolve to organise more such drives and seminars to bring Eco Sensitization amongst public in near future. |
