9 years on, construction of Director employment’s office nowhere in sight | 1.50 Cr released to PWD goes into drain | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 13: The lack of proactive approach by the Labour and Employment Department before releasing amount to executing agency for the construction of Director Employment office in Jammu due to which the project has been nowhere in sight for the last 9 years and allegedly resulted into loss of Rs 1.50 crore. Sources told Early Times that the in order to accommodate offices of Director and Joint Director at a single place, the Labour and Employment Department had purchased a land measuring two kanals in Trikuta Nagar for the construction of Director Employment in 2011. “Department paid Rs 1 crore for the land and Public Works Department (PWD) Roads and Buildings (R&B) Construction Division-I Jammu prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore and PWD was released Rs 50 lakhs by the department,” they said. They further said that in the meantime, the High Court issued stay order for construction on the identified land but surprisingly without taking cognizance of the order. The work could not be commenced in view of the stay order of the Court yet the department again released Rs 1 crore to the executing agency who utilized the whole amount on procurement of construction material.
