Middle rung NC, PDP leaders ‘silently’ holding party meetings across valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 14: With mainstream leaders of major regional parties of Kashmir, National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to remain under detention, the middle rung leaders of both the party are holding party meeting and conventions across places to keep party cadres intact. Early Times has learnt that second run leaders are meeting party workers and other leaders to keep the morale high to keep the party running even on small scale. Mainstream leaders including Current Member of Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah and other leaders were detained by the government following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5. Sources reveal that middle rung leaders of National Conference carried party meeting at places like Budgam, Ganderbal and in Srinagar and idea behind the meeting was to send a message party cadres that party is alive and kicking though senior leaders continue to be detained. “The message was clear to everyone who was there in the meeting that there is a need of party meeting and urgency of keeping each and everyone in the party together”, said a National Conference leader who was in the meeting. He added our party workers would have thought otherwise, but we wanted to make them aware that there is more to be done from now onwards. We admit there are no senior leaders among us but we cannot sit idle and do nothing. While same is being witnessed from Peoples Democratic Party but in a low key manner across the Kashmir. “Our main leaders are caged, we don’t have any direction but that does not mean that we should not carry our party activities. Though all the things are being in low key manner but it reached to our leaders in serious manners so that they remain active”, said a People’s Democratic Party leader. Congress seems to be working in differently. Though the party is active in Jammu but nothing much seems to be working in Srinagar as compared to Jammu. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is arriving in Jammu this week to take a stock on political and security situation. It is pertinent to mention that there have been less political activities in the valley since the August 5 form National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party or from the Congress. However, Bharatiya Janata Party seems to be enjoying the lead.
