AZSA demands separate district status to Zanskar

JAMMU, Jan 28: All Zanskar Student Association ( AZSA ) has demanded separate district status for Zanskar Sub-Division in the Union Territory of Ladakh because of its backwardness, location and size.
Briefing the media President of the urged Government to look into the demand for separate district status for Zanskar Sub-Division.
Alleging step motherly treatment with Zanskar Sub-Division by the Kargil District administration ever since creation of Ladakh Union Territory, AZSA listed the problems being faced by people of the region. “Zanskar, having an area of 7000 square kilometers and sparsely populated, is the oldest tehsil in the Union Territory of Ladakh but because of its location at a distance of 250 kilometers from the administrative headquarter and step motherly treatment by the administration, people have been suffering immensely,” AZSA explained
The Association rued extremely poor telecommunication and surface connectivity in Zanskar and said that because of geographical isolation, local people have to suffer a lot on account of lack of proper health facilities.
Urging the Government to look into the problems and issues being confronted by the people of Zanskar, AZSA reiterated that separate District status to Zanskar Sub-Division was the only solution to end their miseries.
