Army’s obsession to fight proxy war, support terrorism leaves people bankrupt | Pak economy goes to dogs | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 4: Pakistan is paying a heavy price for supporting terrorism and fighting a proxy war with India. According to the media reports inflation in the neighbouring country has touched all time high and the prices of the essential commodities have sky-rocketed. “The paneer is being sold at Rs 900 per kg, while Chaki-da-Atta- is being sold at Rs 70 to 80 per kg. Similarly the costs of other essential commodities too have risen drastically,” an observer told Early Times. He said there are reports that the saner people in the government have told the Army to stop proxy war in Kashmir as “it’s a one sided investment with no returns.” “There are reports that the people handling the civilian affairs of Pakistan have told the Army that they cannot run the country if the armed forces insist on spending huge amounts to support the terrorists,” the observer added. It’s in place to mention here that Pakistan is already in the grey list of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and if the country fails to convince the FATF that it has taken enough steps to contain terror funding and other illegal transactions then there is every possibility about Pakistan slipping into the FATF blacklist. Another analyst said that situation in Pakistan worsened more after the cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan, took over the reins of the country. “Imran Khan has danced to the tunes of the Army and has proved out to be their puppet. It has been established beyond doubt that Khan is not an elected Prime Minister but a selected one. The elections in Pakistan were nothing but a sham exercise,” the analyst added. He said that saner voices in Pakistan have been choked and they are being threatened for expressing concern against Pakistan economy going to dogs. “Many voices in Pakistan are demanding that their government should change their policy of supporting terrorism and end the proxy war, which it has been fighting in Kashmir for the past thirty years. But the Pakistan Army and the ISI are in no mood to change their policy. They are least bothered about the problems being faced by their own people. For them inflation and cost escalation hardly matters. They just want to keep the pot boiling by creating disruption and exporting terror,” the analyst added. Another observer said, “The defeat which Pakistan Army faced in Bangladesh in 1971 is still fresh in the minds of the Pak army officers. They have been trying to avenge the humiliating defeat they faced at the hands of Indian Army for the past 50-years and in the process they have ruined their country and its people.” |
