Early Times Report

Rajouri, Feb 15: Traffic rule violations continue unabated in Rajouri district but the Traffic Police has been acting as mute spectator leading to deadly accidents in this hilly district.
Sources told Early Times that the roads in most parts of the district are in bad condition with the same being main cause of accidents coupled with rash, over speed driving, overloading of passengers’ vehicles.
“Many accidents have been reported in recent past from the Rajouri district which is a hilly area yet traffic police fail to take strict measures to stop traffic violations. There are many buses from Jammu to Poonch route which remain unchecked from the local traffic police,” they alleged.
They alleged further adding that traffic police have set monthly commissions with passengers’ vehicles owners while the vehicles owners who don’t fall in their line are challaned by traffic police.
In local routes, it has been observed that passengers vehicles having seating capacity of 30-35, carry over double of passengers capacity in the vehicles due to which vehicles lose their balance and meet with accident.
“In Dasal village, tempos are reportedly habitual of overloading which led to accidents. Traffic police make strictness whenever accident takes place but after one week or so, things again come to previous situation,” locals alleged.
They further said that many autos, tempo have been plying without permit. Documents of these vehicles are incomplete, some of vehicles have expired rout permit, no valid driving license. All these mal practice has been going on monthly commission which is paid by the vehicles owners to the traffic police.
DySP Traffic Rajouri Poonch Zubair Mirza, when contacted refuted allegations of corruption in the department. He said that vehicles which violate traffic rules are challaned and all measures are being taken to minimize accidents.
