BARAMULLA, Feb 22: Security forces arrested a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Baramulla district today, an official said while as one militant associate linked to LeT was arrested from Sopore. A top police official said that the Baramulla police received information from reliable sources regarding the movement of Junaid Farooq Pandith, a resident of Hamray-Pattan, an active militant of HM. On receiving the credible information, the police in Baramulla, along with 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 176 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, established a checkpoint at Tapper crossing, the police official told early times. The police official said that, during the checking at the spot, one person, coming from Kreeri road, tried to escape following which the police chased and then apprehended him. It is learnt from sources that, on preliminary interrogation, the person revealed his name as Junaid Farooq Pandith alias Abu Talha S/O Farooq Ahmad Pandith of Hamray Pattan. Junaid had joined militancy in June 2019 and a photograph of him wielding a gun went viral on June 10, 2019, on social media. The police official further said that, during the search, one Chinese pistol, two magazines and 13 live rounds were recovered from his possession, and a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered with police station Pattan. There are reports that Sopore Police/security forces arrested one militant associate linked to LeT. He has been identified as Muzamil Ahmad War S/O Manzoor Ahmad War R/O Warpora Sopore. Incriminating material was recovered from his possession. Case registered, and investigations are in progress, said reports. Meanwhile Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) North Kashmir range Suleman Chowdhary today said that, 19 local militants are active in the northern region of Kashmir.
