Jammu, Feb 22: The University of Jammu took an initiative of hosting first ever national integration camp in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The camp is being organized by National Service Scheme (NSS), University of Jammu in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and NSS Regional Directorate, New Delhi. About 200 students from across the country representing different states and UT’s namely Assam, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Orissa, Chandigarh and J&K are participating in the camp. Advisor to Lt. Governor, J&K Farooq Khan, was the chief guest of the inaugural function. He in his address, stressed upon the importance of such National Integration Camps in promoting the spirit of brotherhood and harmony, thus contributing towards nation building. Earlier, Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu in his presidential address said that it is the momentous day that while University of Jammu is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year, so is the NSS. Dr Kamal Kumar Kar, Regional Director, NSS, New Delhi was the guest of honour who in his address presented an overview of National integration Camp and lauded the efforts of the University of Jammu in organizing such a mega event. He said that, it was a long pending demand of the NSS volunteers that NIC be held in University of Jammu, that has been met today. Earlier, Dr. Satinder Kumar, programme Coordinator NSS, presented the welcome address and Prof. Neeru Sharma presented formal vote of thanks. Among others, Deans, Directors, Head of Departments, Dr. Sanjana Kaul, Prof. Vishwa Raksha, Officers, NSS of various States, Staff, Scholars and students were also present on the occasion.
