| Breaching jurisdiction, Forester chops trees in other Forest Range | | |

UDHAMPUR, Mar 9: In a case of unauthorized use of official position, a Forest Officer of Forest Range Ramnagar breached his post’s territorial jurisdiction by cutting some trees of much demanded Khair in Forest Range Udhampur.
Sources informed that the Forester of Block Thlai Forest Range in Ramnagar in connivance with a Forest Guard cut Khair trees from the area of Block Charat Palkhai in Forest Range Udhampur.
Shockingly, the task of cutting the trees was assigned to a contractor but the involvement of Forester and Forest Guard have raised eyebrows.
While seniors in the Department remained tight-lipped, sources informed that the illegal practice is a part of well established Forest Mafia which has links deep inside the Forest Department.
However, the Forester of Block Charat Palkhai and his team took a serious note of intrusion into his jurisdictional area and immediately stopped further cutting of the trees while also seized the fallen trees. He has also forwarded the information about the development to the higher ups in the department.
It is pertinent to mention here that a well established Forest Mafia is very much active in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Though the concerned authorities repeatedly claimed to have checked the activities of the Mafia yet involvement of some insiders of the Department is hindering the complete control over the illegal activities. |
