SRINAGAR, Mar 9: The people at helm in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir had a habit of taking illogical decisions at times and the present dispensation seems to be treading on the same path while inviting criticism about the same. On March 7 (Saturday) the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir issued an order saying that all the primary schools in Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla and Bandipora districts would remain closed up to March 31, 2020. In the order it was written that the step is being taken in order to ensure safety of children following scare over Corona Virus. On the same date Director School Education Jammu issued an order about the same issue and it was ordered that primary schools both in government and private sector would remain closed in Jammu and Samba districts of the Jammu division. The orders of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Director School Education Jammu were welcomed with a pinch of salt by the common masses. Since no order of school closure was issued in the rest of 14 districts of the union territory the people questioned the move of the people at helm and in fact mocked at the directions issued in this regard. The people as a general believe that the order for school closure up to the primary level should have been issued across the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. A group of people while sharing views with Early Times said that irrational and illogical decisions have already spelt a doom in Jammu & Kashmir and the latest order is a part of the same process. They said the government should have ordered for closure of all primary schools in the entire territory and not in selected districts. “How do the people at helm believe that Corona Virus would not affect the children living in districts like Udhampur, Doda, Kathua, Ramban, Reasi, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Kupwara and Ganderbal? They must have some magical wand with them and it is due to this only that such a foolish decision has been taken,” said the group of people. The group of people said that respective Directors of Education should have issued orders that all the primary level schools in the government and private sectors would remain closed due to the threat of Corona Virus. They said that there was no need to close down the schools up to March 31 in the first instance adding that same could have been done later. “It would have been better to close down the schools for two weeks in the first instance. If the situation would have been the same then the closure could have been extended for some more time. However, if the situation would have eased to some extent then the schools could have been thrown open after two weeks,” said the group of people. The people as such demanded that time has not been lost and the government can still order for the closure of schools up to primary level across the union territory as on today. They said that it would ensure that little children who are prone to diseases are not made vulnerable to deadly disease like Corona Virus. |
