Failure to provide basic amenities is gross negligence: Munish to administration | Green Avenue grapples with unmetalled lanes, poor sanitation and lack of drainage | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 15:
Editor, Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Sunday urged the authorities to adopt a humanitarian approach to address the issues being faced by the residents of Green Avenue locality in Digiana area as the people there are facing numerous problems related to basic facilities. “Non-provision of basic amenities is nothing but gross negligence on part of the administration. The authorities need to wake up from its deep slumber so that the residents of Green Avenue could heave a sigh of relief,” said Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency. He said that people of the area are forced to live along poor sanitation, unmetalled roads, lack of proper drainage system besides improper installation of water supply pipes and electric wires adding that the locality which is hardly 200 meters away from highway is still craving for the basic amenities for about a decade. “The miserable condition of Green Avenue area exposes real face of the so-called development. The truth is out in open as despite being in close proximity to highway and posh localities, the area is nothing more than a hamlet. It is really disheartening to see that a common man is suffering in absence of basic amenities.” Meanwhile, the residents of Green Avenue, Ward No 58, said that unmetalled lanes and by-lanes, poor hygienic condition of the area and absence of a proper drainage system have become an eyesore for the locals but redressal to these problems is nowhere in sight despite several attempts being made by the inhabitants in this regard. ISHVIR SINGH: “The lanes leading to our residences are in shambles for the last 10 years or so as the roads are left without being metalled but nobody from the concerned authorities has bothered to get them black-topped or tiled. The lanes are in such a pathetic condition that they have developed pot holes which are causing regular mishaps; however, the authorities are least bothered for the improvement of lanes in the area. Face-lifting of lanes and a proper drainage system would be more than enough for the residents of the area.” MANGA RAM: “The blacktopping of our lanes was never carried out as it seems that the authorities did not deem it fit to go for the surfacing of lanes and by-lanes. The area is also grappling with the problem of haphazard laying of water supply pipes as well as electricity wires. Pipes meant for water supply have not been laid upto several houses due to which the residents are facing huge scarcity of water. Despite making several pleas of providing a proper network of water supplying pipes and electric wires on poles with the concerned departments nothing has been done so far.” UJAGAR SINGH: “The poor sanitary condition of our locality is another major cause of concern for the inhabitants. Heaps of garbage and waste material lay scattered on roads as sanitary staff never pay visit to our locality for collection of refuse or clean up the area. The waste water coming out of households spills on streets and gets logged in the middle as the area is not equipped with a proper sewerage system. There are no proper drains in most parts of the locality while the unmetalled roads become a quagmire of mud in rainy season and a rough, dried up track in summer causing dust to blow in all directions.” RAJINDER SINGH: “The roads are undoubtedly in bad shape but the authorities have turned deaf ears towards their condition. There is severe problem of water logging due to non-provision of drains. During monsoon it becomes almost impossible for the residents to reach the highway as several spots in the area get inundated due to water logging while due to blockage, the dirty water often enters into houses. The locality is ill-equipped as far as electric wires and water supplying pipes are concerned. There are several houses which are still not properly connected with the electric supply or water supply system.” JOGINDER SINGH: “Nobody cares for the bad state of affairs in our locality. The elected representatives show their faces only when an election is round the corner otherwise they remain inaccessible. They never bother to visit our locality to take stock of the problems we are facing. While the officials belonging to different government agencies only give assurances but never do anything on ground. They have developed a habit of shirking off their responsibility. We urge the Lieutenant Governor to ask the officers to visit our locality so as to see for themselves the magnitude of our problems.” |
