Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 15: Some unscrupulous elements have allegedly encroached upon the Irrigation Department’s land in Gole Gujral area but the concerned department has turned a “blind eye” towards this grave issue despite locals being up in arms.
Sources told Early Times that the illegal encroachment of the irrigation land by few miscreants started around two years ago in Gole Gujral near Angad Farms-Banquet Hall. The issue was brought into the notice of the Irrigation Department by the local residents to protect the land but no action was taken by the concerned department, which indicated the involvement of some officials of Irrigation Department. Moreover the concerned SDPO was also informed about the issue but despite assurances nothing was done.
They further said that due to lackadaisical attitude of the Irrigation Department in taking immediate action to save the department’s land the alleged miscreants managed fraudulent revenue papers of the land in their favour in January 2019 in connivance with Revenue Officials. “Although the Irrigation patwari had shown the department’s land up to a particular mark (72 feet) from the edge of cross road but now papers are showing a different mark. Moreover, the encroachers have constructed plinths on it. In May 2019 the complaint was lodged with the Police Chowki Pouni Chak but the incharge officer didn’t take any action,” they alleged.
They said that complaint against encroachment was given to the Chief Engineer Irrigation Department but department didn’t take any action.
Meanwhile, the locals approached the District Administration Jammu following which Assistant Commissioner Revenue directed the Tehsildar West to investigate the matter but due to non cooperation of Irrigation Department, the matter could not be resolved.
“Many communications were sent to Irrigation Department by the District Administration Jammu but shockingly concerned didn’t respond. It indicates that department is involved in this encroachment,” residents alleged.
