Jammu , Mar 15: Jammu-based motivator Vickrant Mahajan has returned to the city from the Road to Tokyo continental boxing qualifier in Amman, Jordan. The tournament saw the Indian boxing team earn 9 quota places at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, making it India’s biggest-ever boxing contingent at the Olympics. This accomplishment is a record for India across all sports, with more Olympic qualifications from a single tournament than ever before. Among the boxers who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics are Mary Kom (51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Pooja Rani (75kg), Amit Panghal (52kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg). 35 countries participated in the tournament and India had the maximum number of qualifications and won the maximum number of medals, alongside Kazakhstan. During the tournament, Vickrant motivated the boxers, coaches, support staff and team managers. He said: “My goal was to make this India’s best-ever Olympic qualifying tournament and I am happy I accomplished it. But my bigger goal is to enable India to win 6+ gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics and this is just a preliminary step in that direction.”
