Utilize all resources to provide dignified life to Dharap Kotha residents: Munish tells admn | Locals seek improved lanes, proper drainage system | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: Expressing disappointment over lack of civic amenities in Ward No 1 Dharap Kotha, the Editor-in-chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Friday said that it is really a pity that the administration has failed in its duty to provide basic necessities like carpeted streets, hygienic surroundings and a proper drainage system to the residents. Munish, who would be contesting the next Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency said, “Dharap Panchayat has always remained at the receiving end as far as development is concerned notwithstanding that it is a part of Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment.” “Dharap has made progress at a snail’s pace in comparison to the other Panchayats adjoining Jammu city where the status of civic amenities is far better. Residents of the area are forced to live in unhygienic conditions as no tangible solution was ever offered by the concerned department. Most of the interior roads in the area are dilapidated as they have either uprooted or developed potholes due to their non-restoration for the last so many years,” Munish added. Munish urged the administration to take a sympathetic view of the problems being faced by the locals of Dharap Kotha and utilize all its resources to provide them a dignified life. Meanwhile, local residents of Ward No 1 Dharap Kotha, said that dilapidated lanes, roads and an overall unhygienic environment are some of the common features in the area which have made their lives pitiable. Residents said, “We do not desire anything but better lanes and channelization of drainage system in their area as potholed streets and drains overflowing with garbage have made their life miserable.” People of the area sought blacktopping or tiling of uprooted lanes and a proper network of drains so that they could heave a sigh of relief besides they also demanded proper sanitary conditions. “We are fed up living along with stinking drains, dusty lanes and by-lanes while the lack of hygiene adds more to our miseries as there is no provision of dustbins here due to which people throw their waste material in the open spaces. Nobody cares for our problems and try to get a solution for them,” they said. Several residents of Ward No 1, Dharap Kotha complained that they are facing difficulties while moving in the streets as most of them have been dug up and left without getting them restored. “Repeated requests to the concerned department for restoration of streets has not yielded any result, which has created problems for the residents of the area as well as passers-by as commuting on these uprooted lanes is a tough task,” the locals said. “There is no attempt to carry out any repairs of the uprooted lanes and by-lanes in our area. Wild weed has grown in the middle of the streets but the authorities never bother to pay any attention towards the matter. Locals have been left frustrated of treacherous potholes that are yet to be filled in,” they said. While few others highlighted the problem of choked drains and dumping of garbage in open saying that insanitary conditions prevailing in the area show that the authorities are incapable of providing much needed relief to the residents.
