Jammu, Apr 27: A retired Army officer on Monday donated Rs 51,000 to the Prime Minister Cares Fund formed in fight against Coronavirus. Retired Captain Sadhu Singh Manhas, who had been part of JAK Rif celebrated his 96th birthday in a different way by donating in PM Cares Fund. The Ex Serviceman handed over the cheque to BJP Member Parliament Shamsher Singh Manhas. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his fight against Coronavirus to save the countrymen, he said, “the decision of lockdown is a welcome step and appreciable.” “We as Indian citizens should play our roles positively and contribute in this fight, which is more than a world war and I am sure, we will succeed in this,” he expressed. Capt (Retd) Manhas is a resident of Ward No 59, Manhas Market, Paloura and was born on April 27, 1925. He joined “J&K State Body Guard Cavalry” in 1944. In 1947, he was posted to “J&K Flying control section” at Srinagar Airfield. This detachment did a great job when the Indian Army landed for the first time in J&K State. In 1953, he was transferred to 1JAK RIFLE. During 1965 war, while being part of his unit, was deployed at the North East border. In 1971, he fought the war in East Pakistan now Bangladesh where his unit won many laurels. The braveheart finally retired in 1976 from the indian Army after serving for 32 years. Since then he has been keeping himself busy in the social work of ex-servicemen and their families.
