Jammu on way towards stability, Kashmir paying heavy price for people hiding travel histories | COVID-19 Outbreak | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 27: Jammu remaining stable is allowing people to breathe bit freely. It looks like that the COVID-19 curve is flattening in the Jammu region as not many fresh cases have been reported during the past few days. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, after holding the interaction with the chief ministers of different States on Monday hinted at relaxing the restrictions in the areas which have not been affected by the pandemic.” He said that Jammu could be one of the regions, where restrictions could be lifted. “Since the day lockdown has been implemented, people of Jammu have shown exemplary discipline and caution to ensure that the virus doesn’t spread. People not moving out has gone a long way to stop the virus from getting transmitted. Another factor which helped Jammu was that the people voluntarily came forward and disclosed their travel histories. This made contact tracing easy and putting them in quarantine a simple process,” the analyst added. He said, “People of Jammu are hoping that their patience and resilience would pay and they will once again live a normal life.” An observer said, “On the other hand situation in Kashmir continues to be grim as the number of positive cases is increasing with each passing day. Hundreds have been tested while the reports of many others are awaited. The sudden spike in numbers has led to the authorities intensifying the restrictions in Kashmir. Many areas in the Valley have been designated as Red Zones.” He said, “Kashmir is paying a heavy price for some people hiding their travel histories and not taking the warnings of the administration seriously. There are bleak possibilities about lockdown being lifted in Kashmir soon.” Another analyst said, “Whenever the lockdown restrictions are relaxed in Jammu, people will have to ensure that they take extra precautions vis-à-vis social distancing and follow other guidelines which have been issued in this regard as on date there is neither a medicine nor a vaccine, which can protect the humans from this deadly disease.” He said, “The fight against the COVID-19 has not ended and it will continue. Recently the World Health Organization (WHO) had said that virus won’t go away so easily and it’s there to stay. We still have a uphill task to accomplish and we cannot be complacent.” |
