Opportunistic politicians
4/29/2020 8:43:46 PM
A selected group of politicians trying to encash COVID-19 by publicizing the “good work” they are doing to help the needy has drawn flak.
These politicians are doing all the “good work” in their constituencies so that they can strengthen their vote bank and seek the votes on name of providing relief. Its nothing but cheap politics aimed at getting publicity and votes. Interestingly, these leaders are not seeking any financial support from the government and are managing the finances on their own. From where did they earn so much of money is a million-dollar question which they have to answer sooner or later.
If we compare these politicians with the volunteers of different organizations who are working 24x7 to help the needy we will find these volunteers much better than these former law makers. The volunteers are working relentlessly without seeking any publicity or any discrimination. They are reaching out everywhere to help the needy as they don’t have to contest any elections. Neither do they have any vote banks which need to be strengthened.
The COVID-19 pandemic has gripped nearly 200 countries along with India, Jammu seems to be the only place in the world where helping the needy has been turned into a publicity stunt. Despite administration imposing a blanket ban on uploading the pictures and videos of relief work on social media, politicians have not mended their ways. It’s unfortunate that for these leaders the outbreak of the pandemic has turned out to be an opportunity to project themselves as the Messiahs of the people.
The saner elements in the society are watching their acts silently as they know it very well that advising these politicians won’t help as they have entered into a competition and want to score Brownie points over each other.
It’s really unfortunate that the people who are being provided help are being photographed. It seems these politicians have no respect for the dignity of the people whom they are helping. The outbreak of pandemic is natural catastrophe which has befallen on the entire human race. No one can consider him superior than the other human being. The COVID-19 makes no distinction on the basis of colour, creed and sex. It can attack anyone irrespective of his or her status.
It has been proven beyond doubt that the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has not changed the politicians and they will continue to look for opportunities and chances to consolidate their vote bank.
