Jammu, May 10: Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Jammu S Jatinder Singh on Sunday said that his department worked against all odds during the lockdown to ensure that ration reaches people. In an interview to Early Times the Director CAPD spoke in detail about how his department worked during COVID-19 lockdown. “I want to thank my field functionaries including assistant directors, TSOs, storekeepers, salesmen, transporters for round the clock to serve the general public during the lockdown,” he said. He said that following the Government’s direction they have distributed ration for the month of April and now they are distributing the same for the month of May. “As of now, we have completed the 99% distribution for these two months,” he added. “We have also distributed 98% pulses for the month of April. Even the free ration announced by the Central Government has also been distributed for previous month,” he added. Referring to the distribution of masks and sanitizers, Singh said that the CAPD has distributed masks and sanitizers to the various government departments and till date around 2.25 lakhs masks and around 44,000 hand sanitizers have also been distributed. Asked about the market checking, the Director said that challans are being imposed on the vendors for hoarding eatable stocks or selling eatables on exorbitant price during lockdown. “We are conducting regular market inspections to check the prices during the ongoing month of Ramadan,” he said. “Whenever we receive any complaint, a team led by Assistant Director reaches on spot and appropriate action is taken against the accused. Area Inspectors, TSOs have also been deputed on inspection duty,” he informed. Referring to the distribution of ration to BPL, PHH families, the Director said that department has been providing 1 kg pulse, 5 kgs rice per month under PMGKY scheme to the people of these categories. We have provided ration for April month and 30% ration for month of May and June has been distributed, he said adding that to ensure free and fair distribution of ration, PRIs have also been requested to remain present while distribution. Asked about the redressal of public grievances, the Director said that Helpdesk has been established by the department for attending public grievances and around 3000 calls have been received so far,
