JK Samagra Shiksha gives opportunity to visually impaired of exploring internet with Braille Tactile Reader | | | Early Times REport
Jammu, May 12: Where there is a will, there is a way and this is what exactly the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department has proved by making studies more convenient and easy for the visually impaired children of the Union Territory by bringing in Braille Tactile Reader device. “We have Braille Tactile Readers but not the laptops to connect with so that the beneficiaries make optimum use of the device,” Dr Arun Manhas, Director, Samagra Shiksha, Jammu and Kashmir told here. He expressed that earlier the visually impaired children with the help of dots (Braille) used to study but now they can directly get information and more knowledge by exploring the internet. “EdCIL Group for support under CSR wanted to extend help to the department. They gave us 42 laptops, which are being placed at different resource centres established at government schools across the Union Territory,” said the Director. “This is first of its kind initiative and once the Braille Tactile Reader gets connected with the laptops, it will be a different world for the visually impaired,” he added. “These children can now explore internet and gather more information, know more about the world,” he said adding that the department is taking many such initiatives for the special children. Principal Secretary School Education, J&K Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon wrote on his twitter handle, Samagra Shiksha JK distributes 42 Laptops in Resource Rooms for CWSNs connected to Braille Tactile Reader machines to access a sea of info for visually impaired children; open to all visually impaired school kids of J&K; Thanks to EdCIL Group for support under CSR.” Meanwhile Director Samagra Shiksha Abihyan (SSA), Dr Arun Manhas replied to the Tweet saying, “Thank you @AsgarSamoon sir for first of its kind gift to our Visually Impaired Children in JK. It was long felt need of blind children who could not explore internet and gather information. Braille Tactile Reader with laptops can benefit CWSNs #InclusiveEducation #SamagraShiksha.” Pertinent to mention here that Samagra Shiksha in January this year in collaboration with a private radio channel ‘Radio Mirchi’ also organized ‘Kano Dekhi Film’ for around 200 visually impaired special kids. Special screening of the Sanjay Dutt starrer movie ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’, special audio movie produced by Saksham Foundation for the visually impaired was screened.
