SRINAGAR, May 12: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers committed suicide by shooting themselves with their service rifles on Tuesday in Kashmir valley. As per the reports the first suicide incident took place in Mattan, South Kashmir Anantnag district, where a Sub-Inspector (SI) who was identified as Fatah Singh son of Eidan Singh, a resident of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan shoots himself with his service rifle. Further reports said that the sub-inspector had left a suicide note, which as per the officials read, “I am afraid, I may have Corona. No one should touch my body, I am afraid, I have corona”. The SI was posted with the 49th battalion of CRPF at Akura, Mattan, Anantnag district. Speaking about the incident, an official said, that soon after Singh fired at himself, his colleagues rushed to the spot and found him in a pool of blood. They rushed him to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the sample of the SI has been taken and his body has been sent for post mortem adding that officials have followed Covid-19 protocol. A case has been registered and further, the investigation was taken up in this regard. A senior CRPF official said, “As such, there is no evidence that he had caught the Covid-19 virus. Let’s wait for the final report. Details will be shared with the media”. In the second incident, an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of CRPF posted with the 49th battalion in Srinagar committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. CRPF spokesman in Srinagar Pankaj Singh said that an ASI of CRPF had committed suicide in Srinagar. “The reason for the suicide is being looked into,” Singh said. Special Director General of CRPF Zulfikar Hassan said that two boys have committed suicide since morning in Kashmir. “We are trying to find out the reason as to why they took this extreme step,” he said.
