J&K AIDS Control Society initiates on-call blood donation exercise | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15: Jammu & Kashmir AIDS Control Society in collaboration with blood banks across J&K have initiated an on-call blood donation exercise wherein the donors who are willing to donate blood voluntarily are being called for donation as and when required. Many prominent organizations that have been roped-in include Sant Nirankari Mission, SAVIOURS, Hussaini Foundation and JK Blood Donors Association. These have come forward for this noble cause and have helped in saving many precious lives by donating blood voluntarily ensuring that no life is lost for the want of blood across J&K. The society has said that national lockdown since March 25, 2020 has posed a big challenge for the blood centers to maintain the supplies of blood as there is limited movement of Blood Mobile, Transportation vans and blood donors. Blood banks world over are dependent on blood donation from healthy individuals to meet their supplies. Since there continues to be a demand for blood and blood components, especially for thalassemia & hemophlia patients, it is essential that supplies of safe blood be maintained at licensed blood centers. Though the general demand for blood and blood products might have reduced due to elective surgeries being kept on hold and road accidents coming down, blood banks still have to cater to those critically ill, blood disorder patients, cancer patients needing platelet infusion, women needing blood transfusion following child birth and trauma patients. Keeping this in mind, regular blood donation, wherever possible is being carried out across UT of J&K especially in the licensed blood banks of all the major government hospitals maintaining proper social distancing guidelines. |
