Skill Development Company asks employees to take voluntary leave for May-June | Denying allegations, management claims of no project in hand, funds’ crunch to meet expenses | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 15: Employees engaged by a Skill Development Company, engaged in imparting skills to youth under various central sponsored schemes such as Himayat, have alleged that the company management has been asking them to take voluntary leave for the month of May and June. The tactic being adopted by the Company is to save the management from any legal implications following the denial of the salary to the employees engaged to impart skill under various centrally sponsored schemes. The employees engaged in the Skill Development Company informed Early Times that around 150 employees including Trainers, Centre Heads, Coordinators, clerical staff has been engaged by the Company to impart professional skills of various kinds such as skills of tailoring, cutting, computer courses, retail training, welder, plumber, electrician etc to the youth enrolled under various centrally sponsored schemes to enhance skills of J&K youth. For the last one week the company management through its Regional Head as well as Centre Heads in various districts, have been telephonically asking the employees (trainers) to send an email from their personal account and take leave for the month of May and June. The message is forwarded by the management to the trainers reads, “…with reference to our discussion (telephonic discussion) I (trainer) would like to opt for LWP from Ist May 2020 as my profile does not allow me to perform work from home during lockdown. I will request please allow me LWP w.e.f 1st May till our centre gets operational. I will resume to services once the centre gets operational. I will be continue with learnet skills and request company will consider me as employee during the period. Secondly I will be available there if learnet skills want me to perform any task, which can be done offline during lockdown.” The trainers claimed that they have also been badly impacted by the lockdown and if the Company would deny them the salary, it would make their life deplorable. “It is almost clear that the Union government would provide them funds and the Company would have to pay the employees but by adopting such tactics, the Company has been trying to deny the employees their share as even if the government would fund the company, the employees would not get the salaries as they would have willingly opted for leave”, a trainer said, adding that the management should issue a circular rather than telephonically asking the employees or through messages to avail leave. J&K Head of the Skills Development Company denied the claims of the trainers and said that no such message has been forwarded by the management directing them to avail voluntary leave. He further said that the salary for the month of April has already been paid to the employees. “But we have been facing scarcity of funds as at present the Company is not having any project functional. The employees are engaged under a project and when there is no project in hand, the company would not be able to pay any of the employees including me”, the Head said, adding that it has becoming very difficult for them to pay the rent of buildings, which runs in several lakhs of rupees. Shah further said that for the lockdown which begun in August 2019, the Skills Development Centres had also become non-operational. “The issue was taken up with the government, which agreed with the demands and released the funds, after which the salary of all the employees had been paid. “As the lockdown will ease out, the issue will be again taken up with the government and if they will agree to our demands the salary of all the employees will be released”, the Head said, adding that not only the salary of the trainers but all the employees would not get the salary if the funds would not be released by the government. |
