Vijaypur town grappling with unattended garbage dumps posing serious health risk | | | Gurdas Kumar Early Times Report
SAMBA, May 15: It may sound strange but it’s a fact that Vijaypur administration has been only focusing on COVID-19 but it has forgotten to take care of sanitation aspect of the town, which has been grappling with unattended garbage dumps. The residents alleged that the huge heaps of garbage have been lying unattended in entire Vijaypur town market as well as in other wards of the Municipal Committee (MC), which have been emanating foul smell making difficult for the residents to breathe in. “Not only the foul smell, even these heaps of garbage have become breeding ground for fleas and mosquitoes posing serious health threat,” the residents alleged, adding that nobody from Municipal Committee Vijaypur has been visiting in any ward to lift the garbage. When Early Times contacted Chairman MC Vijayapur Deepak Kumar, he gave very weird reply by saying that lifting garbage is not their priority at this time as they have been focusing on COVID-19. “All our staff and vehicles are deployed in quarantine centres established in Vijaypur due to which the sanitary workers are not able to discharge their duty in lifting garbage from ward to ward,” he said.
