PHE supplies contaminated water in Mendhar | | | M S Nazki EarlyTimes Report
POONCH, June 1: Not withstanding the tall claims of the Public Health Engineering Department of providing safe drinking water , the residents of Mendhar and adjoining villages complained that they wake up to muddy water supply in their taps from the last following the slight rainfall. Residents of many villages including Mendhar Township complained that PHE Department has failed to provide pure drinking water to them adding many residents now claim that they have fallen sick after consuming the water being supplied to them, they alleged. Locals said that the condition of the water supply system has turned from bad to worse due to the lackadaisical approach of the PHE department. “Whenever it rains, the large amount of mud enters into our taps and storage tanks,” said Zaffer Khan resident of Gohlad and complained of continuous supply of muddy water for the last quite some time. Our taps and storage tanks have got chocked because of the muddy water supply. In the past few days , water draining from taps emanates a foul smell Is this water safe,” asks a housewife in Mendhar. Locals fear that the muddy water can be harmful to their health and prolonged exposure to such water may invite diseases like jaundice and diarrhoea . Complaints to authorities have not borne any result so far they added. Meanwhile Naib Tehsildar Mendhar Ashfaq Ahmed Fani visit the spot and said that he will look into the matter as why the muddy water was being supplied to the population?”
