Jammu leaders click pictures to fight pandemic, forget poor health infrastructure

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 6: The outbreak of COVID-19 has exposed J&K’s health sector and has brought many shortcomings to fore. Leaders in Kashmir have already started raising their voice and are demanding that the health infrastructure needs to be improved after the pandemic ends but no such voice is being heard in Jammu region.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The leaders in Jammu region are busy in getting their pictures clicked and then uploading these on the social media. Even if they distribute a mask or a sanitizer, they ensure that it’s given wide publicity. They seem least concerned about the problems being faced by the people of Jammu vis-à-vis shortage of healthcare facilities in Jammu region.”
He said that till date none of the Jammu based leaders have issued a single statement to express their concern about the “poor state of healthcare” in the region. “These leaders need to realize that only indulging in publicity stunts won’t help their cause. They have to talk about the issues which touch the skin of a common man,” the analyst added.
He said that with each passing day number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu are increasing and the authorities have already started to feel the pinch. “People are hoping that situation doesn’t worsen and curve flattens before the chinks in the health system are exposed further,” the analyst added.
An observer said that if we draw a parallel between the leaders in Jammu and Srinagar and it’s evident that leaders in Jammu are busy deriving political mileage out of the pandemic while the few leaders who are active in Srinagar are talking about how to develop more health facilities to save the lives of the people. “The BJP leaders can play a big role in improving the health infrastructure in Jammu as they are close to power corridors in New Delhi. Unfortunately, these leaders have failed to set their priorities. They believe that they can achieve a lot by just making their presence felt by clicking pictures and uploading videos. They need to change their mindset. If they fail to do so they can pay a heavy price for it in the assembly elections, whenever these are held in the Union Territory,” the observer added.
Another analyst said, “The important facts like that Jammu lags behind Kashmir as far as the testing rate is concerned have been completely ignored by these leaders. For them such issues don’t matter. But someone needs to remind them that people are watching and this time around they are in no mood to get hoodwinked by hollow slogans and mere rhetoric.”
